So Asians Are Wearing Black Hairstyles

I recently discovered a trend in China which sparked a visceral reaction so strong i had to check myself..

This is one of those ‘sensitive’ topics for some, however, as a black man,#naturalista, and advocate for natural hair, I think I stand as a bit of an authority on this topic. Also within every ‘micro’ community, you’ll find the ‘code-switching mindset or ‘don’t fight in front of white people’ mentality. While serving the community for a time, that mindset begets white fright, black tokenism, and glass ceilings. So read this realizing I’m going to see what the fuck I want.

But these seem to be Asian people styling their hair to be more kinky like Black hair.

At first some feelings came up, like “you can’t look black without being black.” or “ everyone is jacking our style, etc”.

Quickly dissipating under new emerging thoughts like how many women I know style their hair like ‘Asian women do’ (big air quotes).

ultimately I think it’s kindof fly.

It’s less often that POC see our hairstyles celebrated by other cultures in this way. Many elements of ‘black’ culture (more accurately ‘hip hop’ IMHO) have been adopted by many cultures.
